Sattu Bungalow with COMSATS University
Nov 16, 2025ThandianiHiked in autumn
Overview
A little history
The RHCP guide dates the bungalow to around the 1890s, built by the British on a high ridge. The name may come from a local word for the ridge, or from 'Satwan Bangla', the seventh forest bungalow.1
Thandiani was a British-era summer retreat, leased by the Battye family and later passed to the Anglican church, which built a sanatorium.2
How to get there
One known route is the RHCP Batadana track: about 9 km from Jhala, or about 5 km from Batadana village, rated Easy to Moderate (RHCP trail guide, club's own figures). The route used for the COMSATS event is not recorded.1
The RHCP guide gives the road distance from Abbottabad as 27.6 km (about 46 minutes by car), without naming the exact endpoint.1
Thandiani is about 37.5 km north-east of Abbottabad per Wikipedia.2
Highlights
Points along the way
Before you go
- Keep springs clean and follow Leave No Trace.1
- For large groups, keep a lead and a sweep walker and do a headcount at each stop.
- Late-autumn days are short and cold at altitude; carry a warm layer and a torch.
Still to record Start, Distance, Elevation gain, Duration, Difficulty, Best season, public record of the RHCP/COMSATS event. We only publish figures we can source.
